Diagram of Illegal Sewer Connections
The Sewer Use Ordinances of Frankfort and Franklin County require that every property that is connected to the sewer system comply with certain standards and requirements. Their purpose is to ensure that the sewer system operates as efficiently and effectively as possible.
The addition of storm water to the sanitary sewer system can overwhelm the system, causing contaminated water to escape from the sewer lines. This is known as a sanitary sewer overflow. For that reason, the ordinances prohibit certain connections that allow stormwater to enter the sanitary sewer system. This diagram provides examples of a typical building with such illegal connections.
